Government Medical College, Kozhikode, also known as Calicut Medical College, is a premier public medical institute located in Kozhikode, Kerala, India. Established in 1957, it was the second medical college to be established in the state of Kerala.

History and Establishment

The college was founded with the efforts of Dr. A. R. Menon, the Health Minister of Kerala at the time, and the foundation stone was laid on May 29, 1957, by Dr. B. Ramakrishna Rao, the then Governor of Kerala. The college officially opened on August 5, 1957, with Dr. K. N. Pisharoty serving as its first principal.

Campus and Infrastructure

The sprawling campus of Government Medical College, Kozhikode, covers an extensive area of 270 acres (1.1 km²) and is situated about 8 km from the center of Kozhikode city. The college is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) after previously being affiliated with the University of Calicut.
