B.K.L. Walawalkar Rural Medical College, located in Sawarda, Maharashtra, was established in 2015. It is the brainchild of the Shree Sant Sitarambua Walawalkar Charitable Trust and Shree Vithalrao Joshi Charities Trust, with the vision to provide holistic development to the villagers in the remote areas of Konkan. The college offers a 66-month MBBS program with an annual intake of 150 students, focusing on producing committed medical professionals with a global outlook.

The college is recognized by the Medical Council of India and affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. It has played a pivotal role in reducing migration to cities and contributing to the prosperity of nearby villages by providing modern medical facilities and empowering opportunities to the villagers.

Under the guidance of its founder, Shri Vithal Ganesh Joshi, the college has evolved into a vibrant economic hub, transforming the once tiny village of Dervan into a model for rural development in India, known as a "Cillage".

The institution not only offers medical education but also provides various other courses such as MD in General Medicine, General Surgery, Pathology, and Anaesthesiology. Furthermore, the college is involved in various social and religious programs, marking its presence in spirituality, culture, education, healthcare, and sociology.
