Zoram Medical College, formerly known as the Mizoram Institute of Medical Education and Research (MIMER), stands as a significant milestone in the healthcare and educational landscape of Mizoram, India. Inaugurated on August 7, 2018, by the then Chief Minister of Mizoram, Lalthanhawla, the college is located at Falkawn village, approximately 16 kilometers from the capital city, Aizawl. The college commenced its first academic session in 2018-2019, starting with an initial intake of 100 MBBS students. The admission distribution included 15% of seats reserved for the Central pool, 10% for Non-Resident Indians (NRI), and the remaining managed by the state. The academic programs initially offered included courses in Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry. The faculty comprised a robust team of 74 teaching members, including professors, associate professors, assistant professors, senior and junior resident doctors, and demonstrators.

Zoram Medical College is affiliated with Mizoram University and recognized by the Medical Council of India. It operates from a semi-urban campus that provides a conducive environment for medical education and research. The college's establishment was a strategic move to fulfill the aspirations of many budding medical practitioners in Mizoram and to provide standardized healthcare facilities to the citizens of the state.

One of the notable achievements of the college was its designation as a COVID-19 hospital during the outbreak of the pandemic. The first COVID-19 patient in Mizoram was admitted to Zoram Medical College on March 25, 2020, and was successfully discharged on May 9, 2020. The institution also set up a COVID-19 laboratory in April 2020, which played a crucial role in testing and managing the pandemic within the state.

In addition to its response to the pandemic, the college has made significant progress in infrastructure development. Noteworthy constructions include the completion of an Animal House, a Community Medicine department building, and separate hostels for male and female students, each with a capacity of 72 beds.
