The roots of Stanley Medical College occurs in efforts initiated by East India Company in year 1740 with an aim of addressing people’s health care even in tragic events like the famine in the year 1782. Since then this Chenai based institution has been performing such commendable activities as providing kanji rice gruel to the distressed and has gradually transformed into a fully erected medical establishment.

For example, if most of our readers don’t know, Stanley Medical College was the first medical college in India to conduct a successful heart transplant surgery in the year 1948. In 250 undergraduate admissions, Tamil Nadu was the first state to have gotten an MCI permit sanctioning its first Government Medical institute for undergraduates.
