The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) is a prestigious medical institute located in Shillong, Meghalaya. Established in 1987, NEIGRIHMS was conceived as a postgraduate medical institution akin to AIIMS, New Delhi, and PGIMER, Chandigarh. It holds the distinction of being the first postgraduate medical institution in the North Eastern region of India. NEIGRIHMS is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, and is affiliated with North Eastern Hill University (NEHU). Additionally, NEIGRIHMS offers a DM course in Cardiology and nursing programs at both the B.Sc and M.Sc levels.

The institute's campus is situated on the picturesque outskirts of Shillong, known as the "Scotland of the East." The campus is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including a 531-bed hospital that provides tertiary care to the population of North-East India. The hospital offers services in a wide range of specialties, such as General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Pediatrics, Urology, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS), General Medicine, Blood Bank, Pathology, and Biochemistry. Additionally, the institute is planning to expand its facilities with the establishment of a 252-bedded Regional Cancer Centre, separate Medical and Nursing Colleges, a College of Pharmacy and Dental Sciences, and other amenities like a Patient Rest House and a Helipad.

NEIGRIHMS is also a hub for research and development in medical sciences. It aims to introduce Bio-medical Engineering courses and other advanced medical programs to enhance healthcare delivery and medical tourism in the region.
