Jhargram Government Medical College & Hospital is situated at Jhargram in West Bengal, and the college started as a Sub Divisional Hospital in anganv 1956. In the year 2012, it was upgraded to a District Hospital and in 2016, it was officially opened as a Super Specialty Hospital by the Hon'ble Chief Minister Smt. Mamta Banerjee, integrating the previous District Hospital into it. A medical college was opened in 2021 by the joint efforts of state and central government which provides degree and courses such as Bachelor in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS). Andranath Saha, the college president, envisions starting with 100 MBBS students each year to improve the region's doctor-patient ratio and provide medical services to the residents of the 44.39-acre site.
This hospital has a capacity of 600 beds and provides a range of services including emergency and critical care, diagnostic and immunization services, with a large volume of annual patient inflow of 131,310 inpatients and 312,000 outpatients. Among other facilities, there is a Blood Bank, Ambulance services and a Laboratory. The medical college is affiliated with the West Bengal University of Health Sciences and has recognition from the National Medical Commission. Its history relates to active involvement in medical education and health of the population of the state aimed at reducing its disease burden and providing tertiary health care services to the residents of Jhargram and the surrounding regions. The campus of the college is situated in quite a region surrounded by the vegetation and wildlife, within the scenic Jhargram district making the environment suitable for education and treatment.
