The Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) is a distinguished state-funded medical college and hospital located in Porompat, Imphal East, Manipur, India. Established in 1989, it initially began as the Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital and has since evolved into a premier institution for medical education and research. The institute's motto, "Towards a Healthy Manipur," reflects its commitment to advancing healthcare in the region.

JNIMS offers a robust academic curriculum designed to train the next generation of medical professionals. The institute accommodates approximately 400 undergraduate students per session, and while the number of postgraduate students is around 145, this figure is subject to re-assessment. The medical college encompasses 21 departments, and in 2017, it expanded further by adding a separate Dental College. The academic structure of JNIMS includes a rigorous MBBS program spread across nine semesters, which encompasses four university examinations. The institute has successfully completed 11 academic batches, comprising nine batches of the MBBS course and two batches of the BDS course by May 2019.

The campus, spread over 100 acres, houses four main hospital blocks, including a separate Outpatient Department (OPD) Block, a Medicine Block, the main block which accommodates various wards such as the Casualty and Special wards, and a dedicated Dental OPD situated near the BDS lecture halls. These facilities ensure that students receive hands-on training in a wide array of medical specialties.

Accommodation for students is well-organized, with separate hostels for boys and girls. As of 2019, there are four boys’ hostels for MBBS undergraduates and a co-ed hostel for BDS students. Female MBBS students are housed in a single, secure, state-of-the-art hostel, while BDS girls share the co-ed hostel. Additionally, postgraduate students, residents, and interns are provided with separate accommodations, allowing them the choice of staying within the campus.

Under the leadership of Prof. Supriya Laifangbam as Dean and Prof. Deben Singh Laishram as Director, JNIMS continues to thrive as a center of excellence in medical education and research.
