The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Guwahati, established in 2020, is an autonomous institute of national importance under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. Its foundation stone was laid by the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on May 26, 2017, as part of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). The primary objective of AIIMS Guwahati is to correct regional imbalances in quality tertiary healthcare and achieve self-sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education. The institute started its first academic session on January 12, 2021, with an initial batch of 50 MBBS students and 21 faculty members.
