About College
Vinayaka Missions Medical College and Hospital, (VMMC), portrays graceful presence in the Karaikal region prominently by the bay of Bengal. It was established in 1996 by Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram who was a wonderful educationist and philanthropist. VMMC became a constituent part of the Vinayaka Missions Research Foundation, Deemed to be University in the following years.
Recognition and Accreditation
In Medical Council of India (MCI): In VMMC, they received the status of permanent recognition for the first time in 2003 which was updated in 2010 as well.
Under University Grants Commission (UGC): UGC has recognized them under The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India
Met International recognition criteria – WHO and FAIMER – International Medical Education Directory (IMED)
Accreditations: National Accreditation and Assessment Council have accredited the institute, NABH has granted it pre-accreditation, TMC has also provided its recognition
Academic Programs
VMMMC has numerous undergraduate as well as postgraduate medical courses. Courses in certain branches such as General Medicine, General Surgery, Dermatology, O&G, Pediatrics, Anesthesiology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, and Biochemistry along with some PG Diploma courses were included in MCI’s recognition in 2006-2007.
Facilities
Hospital: A 590 bedded hospital with diagnostic and therapeutic departments with the latest technology. This healthcare facility provides a variety of health services with specialized clinics in cardiology, neurology oncology and many more.
Overall Description of the Infrastructure Facilities
Infrastructure: The campus is spread over an area of 70 acres, which is equipped with air conditioning, libraries, museums, laboratories, skill labs, and wireless Internet. It further offers round the clock emergency services, student support, and research services.
Hostels: The residential facilities offered to both boys and girls have an outstanding security system, and there are also facilities for medical advice and entertainment.
Research and Workshops
VMMC is committed to the research ethos and is involved in developing innovations, participating regularly in workshops and other CME activities like the VIN DERMA-24 Workshop and VINBIO DM-VIEW-2023 CME.

The institution is fronted by prominent persons, namely, Dr. A.S. Ganesan (Chancellor), Dato's Sri Dr. S. Sharavanan (Pro-Chancellor), Mr. N.V. Chandrasekar (Vice-President) and Mrs. Arunadevi Chandrasekar (Managing Trustee).
