About College
Kasturba Medical College (KMC) is one of the notable centers of medical education located in the state of Karnataka, India. It has two campuses, KMC Manipal and KMC Mangalore.
History
Establishment: KMC was established on 30th June 1953 by T M A Pai. It started as integrated institutions with pre-clinical at Manipal and Clinical at Wenlock District Hospital in Mangalore. The first batch of clinical students came to Mangalore for Ml training in 1955.
Separation and Growth: The consistent growth in the number of the students and medical practitioners required more hospitals hence the commencement of the hospital in Manipal turned out a catalyst in 1969 for these centers to grow and expand individually. The establishment of KMC in Mangalore made it the first medical school to consciously be set up as a joint venture.
Affiliations: For many years KMC was under and associated with few universities, Karnatak University (19531964), University of Mysore (19651980) and Mangalore University (1981-1992). It became a deemed university in the year 1993 and was put under Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE).
Campus and Facilities
Location: The two campuses are geographically located in a similar region of the state of Karnataka. The Manipal campus is situated at a distance of 63 kms towards the north of the coastal city of Mangalore which is 8 kms towards the west of the Arabian Sea.
Facilities: KMC is proud of its facilities which include Kasturba Hospital in Manipal, 2032 beds super specialty hospital, and associations with several government hospitals located in Mangalore.
"Academics"
KMC provides level of training for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students:
Undergraduate Programs: MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery), 2 UG Electives.
Postgraduate Programs: MCh, MD, MSc, MD/MS Integrated PhD, fellowships (Geriatric Medicine, and Interventional Radiology, etc) 2.

Devi Shetty: A well known cardiac surgeon and a founder of Narayana Hrudayalaya
