Kasturba Medical College (KMC) is a prominent institution of medical education located in Karnataka, India. It encompasses two campuses: KMC Manipal and KMC Mangalore.
History
Establishment: KMC was founded on June 30, 1953, by T.M.A. Pai. Initially, it functioned as a single institution with the pre-clinical section at Manipal and clinical training at Wenlock District Hospital in Mangalore. The first batch of students arrived in Mangalore in 1955 for clinical training
Separation and Growth: In 1969, the clinical program began at Manipal with the establishment of Kasturba Hospital. Eventually, the colleges separated, each developing its own pre-clinical and clinical sections. KMC Mangalore became India's first medical institution established as a public-private partnership
Affiliations: Over the years, KMC was affiliated with several universities: Karnatak University (1953-1964), Mysore University (1965-1980), and Mangalore University (1981-1992). In 1993, it gained deemed university status as part of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE)

Location: Both campuses are located in Karnataka. Manipal is a hillock in coastal Karnataka, 63 km north of Mangalore and 8 km east of the Arabian Sea 3.
Facilities: KMC boasts a range of facilities including Kasturba Hospital in Manipal, a 2032-bedded super-specialty hospital, and affiliations with various government hospitals in Mangalore
