The Georgian American University (GAU) in Tbilisi, Georgia, was established in 2001 as part of an MBA project by Elene Jamarjashvili. Initially designed as a School of Law, GAU aimed to offer graduates a Juris Doctor (JD) degree. With the support of Kenneth A. Cutshaw and R. Michael Cowgill, who later became the University President, GAU evolved to meet the high demand for a western-style university in Tbilisi. This led to the creation of a joint limited liability company of American and Georgian investors in 2005, which helped establish the Business School and Law School at GAU.

Highlights
The university has continuously developed and expanded its programs to meet market demands and state priorities. In addition to its Business and Law Schools, GAU has established the Natural Sciences and Engineering School, and the Liberal Education and Humanitarian Sciences School. The university also offers unique opportunities for students through internships with local organizations and exchange programs with foreign universities. This practical approach to education has resulted in one of the highest placement rates for graduates in Georgia.
GAU's campus at 10 Merab Aleksidze Street is a modern facility that includes large classrooms, a library/computer lab, a café, a gym, and auditoriums. The university has made significant investments in learning technologies and facilities, including the Medical School Training Centre, which is recognized by international organizations such as the American Heart Association and the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians. These facilities provide a safe and comfortable environment for students to develop their professional skills.
In 2014, GAU received a 5-year accreditation from the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, ensuring that all its academic programs meet high standards. The university's Code of Ethics guides the behavior and values of its staff and students, promoting transparency, honesty, and social responsibility. GAU also offers scholarships and financial aid to eligible students, supporting their educational pursuits and helping them achieve their academic and professional goals.
